What is capillary action?

What is surface tension?

Capillary action is the combined force of attraction among water molecules and with the molecules of surrounding materials.

Examples

Surface tension is the tightness across the surface of the water that is caused by the polar molecules pulling on one another.

Examples

Water in a straw :
The attraction between molecules and with surrounding materials is what makes the water rise in a straw.
Wet paper towels :
The attraction between molecules and surrounding materials is what makes the water rise on the paper towel

Water strider:

The tightness across the water allowing for  the water strider to stand on it is because of the polar molecules pulling on each other.

A drop of water:

The drop of water is on the leaf beacuse of all the polar molecules pulling on each other.
